Prisoners` Empowerment through Skills Training and Paralegal Service (2015-2016)

In 2015, PFF received support from the Embassy of Finland in Zambia to implement a Prisoners’ Empowerment through skills training and paralegal services in Kabwe prisons, Mkushi and Mumbwa districts in Central Province of Zambia. The following results were obtained from the project:

  • Trained 50 female and 250 male prisoners in various TEVET skills by 2016
  • Trained four instructors from some of the targeted prisons in teaching methodology
  • Refurbished 5 skills training workshops in targeted prisons by end 2016
  • At least 50% of the trade tasted ex-inmates become productive and sustainable upon release from prison by end 2016
  • Trained and oriented 3 paralegals with code of ethics for Prison, Police and Court works by fourth quarter 2015
  • Conducted one pre-trial detention audit at Kabwe group of prisons by fourth quarter 2015
  • Empowered 600 prisoners in Kabwe to represent themselves in courts, apply for bail/bond, present a mitigation plea, and drafting an appeal from lower courts to higher courts.

Far right is the Workshop PFF built and handed over to Medium prison.

In April 2016, PFF partnered with Mabeleka Enterprise, an enterprise that looks at environmental waste management. Thereafter, PF solicited and donated drums to be used as bin for Livingstone prison. Below is a picture of containers donated to the prison.

 

In 2016, PFF Supported recreation in correctional facilities through donation of football. In pic 1 is PFF Director purchasing football jerseys, in pic 2 inmates at Mukobeko Maximum wearing the donated jerseys.
