Introduction

PFF is a non-governmental organization duly registered in the Republic of Zambia under the NGO Act of 2009. The organization was formed to look into the welfare of serving and former inmate, including citizens who come in contact with the justice system. Its objective is to respond to the rights of serving, ex- inmates and indigents in Zambian societies.

PFF has successfully implemented projects with the support from GIZ, UNDP, and EU Delegation in Zambia among others in improving the welfare of inmates and ex-inmates across Zambian Correctional facilities. PFF in partnership with Ubumi Prisons Initiative received an award of recognition in Health and Social Care by Zenith Global Health, on 23rd April 2022.

The vision of PFF

A society in which there is equal access to justice for in-mates and ex-mates, respect for human rights, observance of the rule of law and a sustainable and pollution-free environment.

The Mission Statement

PFF provides legal services as a means of promoting human rights to inmates and their rehabilitation while empowering and integrating ex-inmates into society. PFF also promotes environmental management within and around correctional facilities for the purposes of mitigating the negative effects of climate change.

1.3 Goal

PFF’s goal is to contribute to the improved access to justice for inmates, the empowerment and integration of ex-inmates and environmental friendly correctional facilities in Zambia.

2.0 Focus Areas

  • Improved access to justice and rehabilitation of inmates:This is meant to support inmates with legal aid and other services to ensure that their human rights are observed.
  • Reintegration and Empowerment of ex-inmates:The purpose of this strategic intervention area is to ensure that once released, inmates are able to become meaningful members of society, facilitate restorative justice initiatives and to minimize risk of re-offending.
  • Creation of environment friendly correctional facilities:This is meant to develop interventions that are aimed at sustainable environmental management and sanitation to mitigate the negative effects of climate change.
  • Institutional development of PFF: This strategic intervention area will ensure that PFF develops into an organization that has appropriate institutional mechanisms to deliver on its mandate
