Prisoners` Empowerment through Skills Training and Paralegal Service (2015-2016)
In 2015, PFF received support from the Embassy of Finland in Zambia to implement a Prisoners’ Empowerment through skills training and paralegal services in Kabwe prisons, Mkushi and Mumbwa districts in Central Province of Zambia. The following results were obtained from the project:
- Trained 50 female and 250 male prisoners in various TEVET skills by 2016
- Trained four instructors from some of the targeted prisons in teaching methodology
- Refurbished 5 skills training workshops in targeted prisons by end 2016
- At least 50% of the trade tasted ex-inmates become productive and sustainable upon release from prison by end 2016
- Trained and oriented 3 paralegals with code of ethics for Prison, Police and Court works by fourth quarter 2015
- Conducted one pre-trial detention audit at Kabwe group of prisons by fourth quarter 2015
- Empowered 600 prisoners in Kabwe to represent themselves in courts, apply for bail/bond, present a mitigation plea, and drafting an appeal from lower courts to higher courts.
